Found it =D

there were a lot of long counter loop rallies and amazing ball placement like Andy said. I think this is before the banning of speed glue though.

well it is in 2006 so i think that they already banned speed glue. by the way, speed glue makes the ball have more spin and speed so having long rallies like in the video is quite hard to do

you can still buy it but for professional tournaments with "enez testing" and all it's a little harder to use, but i hear that some professionals still use speed glue. they pass the VOC-test by letting the rubbers air out for a day or something. just some conspiracy theories i've heard...

Some rubbers are made with speed glue technology but are not speed glued so you can still get speed glue experience without speed gluing. Speed glue is banned in all competition.

Don't do speed glue (don't do drugs).
Pure skill comes from glue that can provide more speed but isn't speed glue. =P

Speed glue Empty Re: Speed glue

Post by Ariel Chen Wed Apr 01, 2009 12:16 am

haha that reminds me something joel told me when i asked him if he speed glued. the convo went something like this

(this convo was during the summer of... 07 i believe right when speed glue was deemed illegal, but would be in effect starting sept.)

"hey do you speed glue?
yeah
but it's banned
not until september!
but shouldn't you get used to not speed gluing?
once you start you just can't stop"

i must admit i did try speed glue one time and the extra speed was very much to my liking. also when you speed glue there's this awesome click noise when you hit the ball. it even feels like you feel the ball more, as if the ball were actually slower even though it's faster. maybe more dwell time with bigger catapult effect.

well either way that was my one try speed gluing and haven't done it since.

don't do drugs.

If the speed and spin comes from making the sponge softer, why don't they just make rubbers that have softer sponges?

Here is one of those speed glue rubbers:
http://www.megaspin.net/store/default.asp?pid=r-lkt-torrent

It says the structure of the pips makes it have the effect but its stats are like a hurricane III with less control. False advertising? lol

Hurricane III is better overall though. Anyway, if you reglue properly each time before you play (VOC free), it can enhance the rubber for a short amount of time. That's what the pros do and that's why you see a lot of pros pressing their rackets against the table in warm up.

Speed glue Empty Re: Speed glue

Post by David Xiong Wed Apr 01, 2009 11:04 pm

"The theory behind speed glue is that it is soaked up by the sponge layer between the rubber topsheet and blade of a table tennis paddle. The sponge begins to expand, and consequently begins to stretch the attached rubber topsheet causing increased tension and creating a "trampoline" effect on the ball causing it to bounce back quicker." From Wiki

so it doesn't soften the rubber but soft rubbers get a greater effect when used with speed glue.
